Commissioner Mark Thompson
Mark Thompson has served as a Fire Commissioner since 1998, originally with Thurston County Fire Protection District 5 before it consolidated and later merged with Thurston County Fire Protection District 9, now known as the McLane Black Lake Fire Department. During his tenure with the fire districts, Mark has worked with fellow commissioners, department personnel and the public to ensure the district maintains the resources necessary to deliver skilled, cost-effective emergency services. He has played a key role in hiring career firefighters, strengthening mutual aid agreements with neighboring districts, and upgrading facilities and equipment.

Mark has been a Senior Deputy Prosecuting Attorney with the Thurston County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for over 38 years and a life-long Olympia resident. He is a proud University of Washington alumnus and avid sports fan. Mark enjoys spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren, along with exercising, socializing with friends, travel and photography.
